Hi everyone. I've had so much sent to me this week to share that there is no time to waste on idle chit chat, so let's get going. :)
________________
I've had a few people write to say they'd like to know a little bit about me. There's not a whole lot to tell so let's get that out of the way first. And if any of you would like to share a bio with the others, send it to me and I'll be glad to put it in the next issue.
Well you know my name is Toni and hubby's name is John. We've been married for 19 years. We live in south-central West Virginia. I don't work outside the home. I like to pen pal (I'm not looking for any new pals though; sorry) and read, take pictures and play Scrabble. Well that sounds rather boring but I can't really think of anything else.

In this issue I thought I'd share a website that I use a lot. Its http://www.heavenlylowcarb.com/html/hungry_girl.html Whether you're trying to lose weight or just maintain the size you are now, this is a great site for "guilt free" snacks and meal ideas. They give you easy recipes, new product information, and shopping tips.

Last week I split up some fun facts sent to me by Cheryl, so this week I include the rest:
February 1865 is the only month in recorded history not to have a full moon.
In the last 4,000 years, no new animals have been domesticated.
If the population of China walked past you, 8 abreast, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction.
Leonardo Da Vinci invented the scissors
Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite.
Rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.
The average person's left hand does 56% of the typing. The cruise liner, QE 2 moves only six inches for each gallon of diesel that it burns.
The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket. The winter of 1932 was so cold that Niagara Falls froze completely solid. There are more chickens than people in the world. Winston Churchill was born in a ladies' room during a dance. Women blink nearly twice as much as men.

Ever walk down the automotive aisle & look at the different brands of oil? Ever ask anyone which brand is the best? You'd probably get as many answers as there are brands! Opinions & emotions run high on this issue, including my own. Some do outperform others because of how much or how little additives are put in, however, except for synthetic oil, ALL motor oil comes from the same base stock & any quality oil will have the same basic information on the side of the bottle. First thing is the oil's weight or viscosity designated by such as " SAE 10W-30 " which stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers says this oil is 10 weight in cold weather ( the "W" stands for Winter ) & at operational temperatures it changes to 30 weight because of the polymer additives. The center pic shows "API SERVICE SM, SL, SJ or ILSAC GF-4 " In the beginning, the American Petroluem Institute designated in service grades motor oil starting with "SA" & going up the alphabet as improvements were made to the formula over the years. So if you have an older car that originally calls for say a SE grade, SM, SL, or SJ would be just fine. The ILSAC GF-4 stands for International Lubrication Standardization Acceptance Committee Global Forum meeting for the fourth time. Basiclly what happened the worlds automakers got together & worked out what they think the basic engine lubrication standards should be. So if you had a foreign car, finding oil won't be a problem. There's a red ring that's hard to read in the middle pic. It's the API "doughnut" that signifies this oil is approved for gasoline engines. Some oil is formulated for diesels and wouldn't work well in gas engines.
So that's the skinny on the side of the bottle. No matter what brand you like the best, use the oil your engine calls for & change it regularly. Oh by the way, the "Super Tech" brand from Wal-Mart shown in the pics, is bottled by Pennzoil. Who knew? :)

Very interesting and fun stuff sent to us by Terrie:
When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest.Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are: Monday = Blue, Tuesday = Green, Thursday = Red, Friday = White and Saturday = Yellow. The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday.Very easy to remember and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors.
MONEY... It fell from the SKY!
In 1968, shoppers in Kent, UK, were surprised by falling coinage on the footpath. Apparently they came from nowhere with only the sound of them hitting the ground alerting the shoppers to their presence, and the dents in them backed up the story that they had fallen from the sky. There were no tall buildings or planes nearby. In 1976 over a Piazza in Rome, a light plane dropped a large quantity of 500, 1000, and 10000 lira bank notes. The pilot of the plane was never identified.
In 1982 a young girl saw a 50 pence coin fall from the sky while in a church yard near Manchester UK.Later on during the same day, other children found coins in the same place. A local sweetie/lolly/candy shop owner who'd been swamped by coin-bearing children, thought that maybe the children had stolen the coins from the church's collection box and contacted the church immediately, but no money was missing. All the children swore that the money had fallen from the sky.In 2007 a raucous group of demonstrators managed to make it to the visitors gallery of the New York Stock Exchange and throw $100 in $1 bills over the edge. Also occurring in 2007 was the incident in Tokyo, Japan where a million yen began floating down from the top of an apartment block above a convenience store. While only last month in Indonesia, 100 million rupiah, or nearly £6,000,cash was thrown from a plane in a marketing stunt over one of the poorest areas.
The simple FUN you can have with WORDS!
1. I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.
2. Police were called to a day care where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.
3. The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference.
4. The butcher backed up into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his orders.
5. To write with a broken pencil is pointless.
6. When fish are in schools they sometimes take debate.
7. The short fortune teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large.
8. A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.
9. The world will never run out of maths teachers because they always multiply.
10. When the smog lifts in Los Angeles, U.C.L.A.

~Healthy Living by Phyllis~ (formerly known as Diet Column by Phyllis)
Ever wonder how many calories you need to cut in order to lose weight? A great way to find out is to first figure out how many calories you need to eat to MAINTAIN the weight you are now. Go to http://www.shapefit.com/dailycalorie-calc.html and fill in the blanks to get the number of calories you need to stay the weight you are. In order to lose weight at a rate of one pound per week, you need to cut 3,500 calories from your diet each week....or 500 calories cut per day. So take the number of calories you need daily to maintain your weight, and cut them by 300, and then try to add exercise to burn 200 more calories.. That will enable you to lose about one pound a week.
For example, if you needed 2200 calories a day to maintain your weight, in order to LOSE weight you could cut 300 calories out a day and only consume 1900 calories. Then you need to workout enough to lose 200 more calories a day.
Next week I'll be talking about the importance of exercising. And remember, always consult your doctor before starting any diet or exercise program!
